The Western Seed Association awards seven (7) $8,000 scholarships each year (divided equally over two semesters) to students pursing a degree in Agriculture/Agronomy.  Scholarships are open to undergraduate and graduate students with at least two semesters remaining before graduation.  Applications must be submitted via the online application form available on the WSA website, www.westernseed.org.  An essay is required with the application.

The deadline to apply is May 1st.  After the closing date, applications will be reviewed, and applicants notified by July 31st if awarded or not awarded.  Scholarship funds will be disbursed upon proof of enrollment in the amount of $4,000 per semester.  Proof of enrollment must be submitted by August 15th for the Fall Semester and January 10th for the Spring Semester. Students receiving scholarships will be recognized on the WSA website and in the WSA Convention program.

Students awarded a scholarship are ineligible for additional WSA Scholarships, so please do not apply.

The following is criteria for the scholarship:

  • Course of study should be Agriculture/Agronomy related
  • Outside activities should include some area of community service
  • Student activities showing student's participation as a member and leader
  • Goals and career plans upon completion of college  
  • Connection to WSA should be noted and can include direct participation with the organization, parental participation, employer participation
  • Scholarship/grade point average and honors received should show student's aptitude for success
  • Other criteria should include work experience, family need, and any additional relevant criteria
